Philadelphia Eagles top NFL.com’s free agency power ranking
Despite losing several valuable pieces to their championship puzzle, the Philadelphia Eagles top NFL.com’s free agency power ranking.
First came the NFL Free Agency period and what was seen as ‘The Frenzy’. Now, as we move through the final 11 days of March, teams are dealing with the subsequent fallout. The Philadelphia Eagles lost several key members of their Super Bowl puzzle when the likes of cornerback Patrick Robinson, defensive tackle Beau Allen, defensive end Vinny Curry, tight end Trey Burton and running back LeGarrette Blount all found new homes for the 2018 season (and beyond for some of them).
The Eagles made some key additions as well, and it appears that in the eyes of some of the experts, NFL.com included, those moves were sufficient enough to say Philly’s off-season, to this point, has been a success.
How do you rank the Eagles off-season to this point? One NFL.com analyst sees it as the best in the entire NFL.
Just this week, NFL.com analyst Elliot Harrison published an article on where he sees each team following the ‘Free Agency Frenzy’, and the Eagles, despite losing several key pieces on offense and defense (don’t forget they also moved on from wide receiver Torrey Smith in a trade with the Carolina Panthers), top his list.
Take a look at some of what he had to say:
"The Super Bowl champs aren’t going to be chumps on the phone. That’s what we learned this past week when it came out that the Cardinals lobbed a call for Nick Foles. Howie Roseman laughs at your offer of a non-first-round pick. He scoffs…doesn’t bite… gleams. OK, that last one didn’t make sense, but you have to hand it to Eagles brass for the way they’ve managed their resources. Losing Patrick Robinson hurts, as he was one of the most underrated players last season. Retaining Nigel Bradham, on a don’t-wanna-move discount, helps. Still No. 1."
More action is sure to follow.
Philadelphia Eagles
What’s not mentioned there is the additions of defensive tackle Haloti Ngata and defensive end Michael Bennett. They could serve as upgrades from Curry and Allen and give the Eagles, arguably, the most dangerous defensive line in the entire NFL.
Honestly, can you name one that’s better off of the top of your head? It’s a more difficult task than it seems on the surface.
Philly also added linebacker Corey Nelson and they acquired cornerback Daryl Worley in the aforementioned Smith trade. So far, the moves that have been made this off-season make it appear as though executive vice president of football operations Howie Roseman plans to be as aggressive as he always has been.

There are still key free agents available and moves to be made, but the frenetic part of the free agency period is over. Now, teams will look to add players at discounts. Expect some surprises from Roseman and company as we inch closer to the NFL Draft.
