Philadelphia Eagles: Changes to Color Rush won’t affect the blackout
The NFL has decided to put an end to the Color Rush uniform for now. How will it affect the Philadelphia Eagles?
Thursday Night Football hasn’t been exactly the best programming for NFL fans over the years. Although it does give football fans more entertainment from the sport throughout the season, it always seems to come up short in some areas.
For one, the matchups aren’t exactly the most attractive games to watch. Second, a lot of players and fans blame the short weeks of resting on the increase of injuries. And three, not too many fans seem to love the color rush uniform combinations.
Here’s a quick history lesson.
Back in 2016, the NFL officially made it mandatory for teams to wear one solid color on Thursday Night Football. While some teams looked pretty good in their new getups, other teams looked quite brutal in the one-tone combination (cough, cough, Miami Dolphins).
So for those of you who hated the color rush combinations, today is your lucky day. On Tuesday, the NFL has decided it’s no longer mandatory to wear color rush jerseys for the 2018 season, but they may not do away with the uniforms entirely.
Here’s a tweet from Mike Garafolo.
Moving on.
With the three-year experiment being over, what does this mean for the Philadelphia Eagles? It means pretty much nothing. Don’t worry Eagles fans; the beloved blackout uniform combination won’t be going anywhere.
Since 2014, the Eagles have been donning their all-black uniform combinations. Over the three-year span of the color rush, the Eagles had only switched up their all-black combination once when they were on the road against the Carolina Panthers in 2017.

So while other teams decide to do with the extra jersey, the Eagles will continue to rock with the blackout on special occasions. The Eagles went 2-0 in all black last year, including the brutal beating of the Denver Broncos before the bye week. We can all expect another blackout or two for the 2018 season at Lincoln Financial Field.
