Might the Philadelphia Eagles go with a tight end later in the 2018 NFL Draft? Might that tight end be Chris Herndon?

If you’re a fan of the Philadelphia Eagles, you’ve, no doubt, heard the name Chris Herndon a time or two. Herndon’s been mentioned a few times as mock drafts popped up everywhere. It was also known that he was among the prospects Philly would host as they planned their pre-draft visits.

Time, seemingly, has flown by, and the Eagles still hold the final first-round selection of the upcoming selection meeting. Most of the drama surrounding that pick revolves around two possibilities. One, the Eagles might hold on to the 32nd slot, or they can go with what many believe is the better option. They might trade down if they can find a willing partner.

If they feel they can move back, pick up a few more picks and still end up with the opportunity to take someone valuable on their draft board, option two might be the one they decide on.

Herndon to Philadelphia is an idea that continues to pick up steam.

Here we are. The NFL universe will descend upon and revolve around Dallas very shortly. Herndon was mentioned by Tommy Lawlor in his final Eagles-Only Mock. Lawlor brought up the possibility of ‘The Birds’ taking him off of the board in round four. USA Today’s Eagles Wire also mentioned Herndon as a possible prospect on Day 3.

Here’s some of what NFL.com had to say in his Draft Profile:

"Herndon’s athletic ability will flash on tape, but his college production was pedestrian and he’s still very raw. He has TE2 potential if he can improve his upper body strength and hand placement as a blocker. While Miami used him as a “run after the catch” option, NFL teams may lock in on his ability to threaten defenses on the second and third levels. Herndon has exciting athletic ability, but there is still plenty of room for improvement before he becomes a factor in the NFL."

Maybe you agree with that. Maybe you disagree. One thing’s certain though. Philly needs help at the tight end position for Zach Ertz. Herndon may be a safe and inexpensive bet if Philly does, indeed, invest at the position and do so late in the upcoming draft.

We’ll have to see what happens.
