Philadelphia Eagles: Inside The Iggles 2018 NFL Mock Draft
Derrius Guice, RB, LSU
Round 1, Pick 32
You could argue that the Eagles aren’t in need of a running back at the moment. But that simply isn’t true. With LeGarrette Blount out of the picture, the Eagles are left with only two realistic contributors in the backfield in Corey Clement and Jay Ajayi. With Wendell Smallwood and Donnel Pumphrey beginning the year on the chopping block, the situation at running back is hardly ideal for the Eagles.
Ajayi may only be 24-years-old, but he is entering the final year of his contract. Considering the Eagles will be struggling for cap space during the next offseason as well, it isn’t hard to guess that Ajayi will find a new home in free agency. Now, the Eagles could finally patch up their hole at running back with an all-around talent like Derrius Guice.
Some may say that Guice won’t fall to the Eagles at 32. Some recent reports suggest that teams are starting to shift their attention to other running backs early on, though. If Guice is available at the end of the first-round, it would be a no-brainer selection for the Super Bowl Champions. Considering that they swung and missed out on Dalvin Cook in the second-round of last year’s draft, there is a good chance that they don’t want to let their ideal running back slip away two years in a row.
