Philadelphia Eagles exercise Nelson Agholor’s fifth-year option
The Philadelphia Eagles like what they saw from the soon-to-be four-year veteran, Nelson Agholor.
Exercising the fifth-year option for Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Nelson Agholor was definitely not in the plans a year ago. In fact, roughly majority of the Eagles fan base had pretty much had enough of Agholor after year two. The former first-round pick finished his first two seasons with an underwhelming 648-yards and three touchdowns.
Fast forward to now, and Nelson Agholor is arguably the most improved Eagles player from the past season. The guy who couldn’t avoid the first-round bust label if he tried is now considered one of the most dangerous slot wide receivers in the NFL after 2017.
Agholor helped contribute to the Eagles Super Bowl success big time in 2017. He finished up the season with career-highs all across the board. Agholor put up 768-yards and eight touchdowns off of 62 receptions. A massive upgrade from his first two seasons in the NFL. As Agholor heads into his contract year, the Eagles have decided that they would like to keep him around for a little while longer.
The Fifth-Year Option:
This was obviously the right move by the Eagles. With Agholor’s improvement, it will be crucial to keep the same wide receiving core intact beyond 2017. Now, the Eagles won’t have to worry about coughing up big money for a long-term deal right at the end of the 2018 season.
Next: For the Eagles, the draft was all about 2019 and beyond
Agholor is primed for yet, another big year. As the Eagles upgraded their passing game with Dallas Goedert, and Mike Wallace, Agholor will benefit big time with the weapons around him. The key to Agholor’s success in 2017 was the not only the mismatches that defenses gave him but the distractions of weapons from the Eagles offense all over the field. While last season was great for Agholor, we should expect to see him really turn up the pressure on secondaries this season.
