Donnel Pumphrey, RB

Let’s stay on topic here concerning the backfield. Smallwood isn’t the only running back with all eyes on him to get cut this summer. Donnel Pumphrey is also fighting for a spot on the roster this summer. Similar to Smallwood, Pumphrey’s second season becomes a make or break one. Only this time around, Pumphrey is not as fortunate.

Honestly, Pumphrey may never have a chance to prove himself. He was issued a ton of opportunity in last years preseason on both, special teams and offense but he ultimately failed to impress anybody. For that, he ended up spending his rookie season as nothing more than a redshirt.

We know, Pumphrey had an “injury” last year that kept him sidelined, but let’s not play dumb here. By mid-season, the Eagles could’ve had the chance the activate him off the IR, but at that point, it just wouldn’t make sense.

So now Pumphrey gets his second chance this offseason to prove that he could potentially become Darren Sproles 2.0. But if he fails in the preseason once again, we can forget all about the Pumphrey experiment, because he is good as gone.
