President Trump revokes Eagles invitation to the White House
The Philadelphia Eagles are no longer invited to the White House to celebrate their Super Bowl win.
We’ve heard the debates all season long about the NFL’s national anthem issues. After President Donald Trump responded in anger towards select NFL players earlier in the season, we knew it was going to be interesting to see how this year’s Super Bowl White House visit would go. Interesting enough, the Philadelphia Eagles are the Super Bowl representatives for the 2017-2018 annual White House visit. Well, at least they were.
This Tuesday, the Eagles were set to take a break from OTAs and were planning on visiting the White House. Although many players (former and present) chose not to attend early on, there still was a few guys who were packed up and ready to go.
Eagles owner Jeffery Lurie decided that he would let the players choose what they wanted to do. They could head to Washington D.C. as a team regardless of who is visiting the President. Or they could decide to stay back and avoid the media circus in D.C. When President Trump found out that a rumored “less than ten” players were attending, he was not pleased, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo. So on Monday evening, The White House put out a statement regarding the visit.
A Statement from the White House:
For the first time, the Super Bowl Champions had their invitation revoked. Now, the handful of Eagles players will not attend The White House along with the 1,000 Eagles fans that were also rumored to be showing up. The situation is unfortunate for those who planned on attending. But at the end of the day, it’s probably better for the Eagles to avoid any sort of backlash for lack of attendance. At this point, they cannot be blamed for only sending a small delegation considering they are uninvited at this time.

So far, the Eagles did not make a statement on the situation. But they did receive a kind gesture from other U.S. politicians. Pennsylvania Senator Bob Casey and Congressman Brendan Boyle invited the Eagles to the U.S. Capitol for a Super Bowl celebration there instead.
There’s no word on whether the Eagles will accept or not, but we have to guess that there may be a better chance of that happening at this point. Regardless of the situation, though, the Eagles are still Super Bowl Champions. A revoked invitation to the White House cannot take that away.
