Don’t get excited yet, but Carson Wentz is starting to look better each and every day.

It feels like it has been forever since the last time we saw Carson Wentz play. On December 10th, 2017, the Philadelphia Eagles thought that their season was over. When Wentz went down with a torn ACL, nobody expected them to lock in the NFC’s first seed and head all the way to Minnesota to win Super Bowl LII. But sure enough, the next man-up mentality was real in Philly.

Eagles backup quarterback Nick Foles ended up being named MVP of Super Bowl LII. You know the story. Despite the recent success of Foles though, Eagles fans are still itching for the return of their franchise quarterback, Carson Wentz. As of right now, Wentz is questionable for week one roughly three months from now. But as OTAs go on, Wentz is beginning to turn doubters into believers.

Could Wentz play against Atlanta?

September 6th is circled on Wentz’s calendar. The Eagles are set to open up the season on Thursday Night Football against the Atlanta Falcons. While many fans expected Wentz to miss a few games, the third-year quarterback continued to remain positive. And every time he had a chance to talk to the press, he reassured everybody that he is planning on being ready when the time comes to kick off against the Falcons.

Some may think Wentz is just overly confident. But his expedited recovery from his major knee surgery is really starting to make people wonder. Can he actually make it back in time for the season opener? We don’t know for sure, but the dream is starting to become a reality.

Two weeks ago Wentz had the local media in a frenzy. As his mobility remained limited, Wentz’s throws looked flawless. Fast forward to now, and Wentz is cleared to participate on 7-on-7’s at practice. That means he is not only moving a lot more, but he is playing full-speed now without contact. Also, when he isn’t actually participating in team activities, he is apparently on the sidelines running sprints.

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen stated on NFL Live that he is beginning to think the comeback will happen sooner than later as well. The veteran analyst said that he is “starting to believe that Carson Wentz is going to be ready for the opener.” It looks like the small sample sizes from open practices are more than just Twitter hype. He still has a long road ahead of him, but Carson Wentz is not lying when he says he is going to be ready for week one.
