Eagles CB Sidney Jones’ road to recovery has a ton of obstacles
The road to recovery has been difficult for Philadelphia Eagles rookie cornerback, Sidney Jones.
When the Philadelphia Eagles won Super Bowl LII, it sent the Philly fan base to a place where nothing can bring them down. Although the happiness is absolutely called for, the Super Bowl memories tend to overshadow the start of the 2018 season. Super Bowl or not, this year was always set to be a big season for the Eagles and many of their intriguing players.
Comebacks are brewing at the Nova Care Complex. Just because the Eagles are starting out on top, doesn’t mean that they had a perfect team last season. As we all know, veterans like Carson Wentz, Darren Sproles, and Jason Peters are planning on coming back better than ever from their significant injuries. But one player, in particular, is coming back from his injury with barely any NFL experience at all.

Former second-round pick Sidney Jones is working on his comeback season. The former Washington Huskies cornerback expected to miss his entire rookie season when he ruptured his Achilles before the 2017 NFL Draft. Fortunately, he found himself on the field for a meaningless Week 17 matchup last year. But the road to a full recovery continues to get in the way of Jones’ true NFL debut season.
Health struggles early on:
Since Jones ruptured his Achilles, he has suffered multiple minor injuries that have slowed up his progression. He was pulled from the game in his NFL debut due to having hamstring issues. After the Eagles realized Jones might not be in tip-top shape, they pulled the plug on his rookie season and kept him out of uniform on the sidelines for the playoffs.
This year offers a fresh start for Jones, but his body is already making his journey even harder. Despite having an impressive showing at OTAs, Jones is already missing the mandatory Mini-Camp portion of the offseason. Right now, the Eagles are keeping his status on the hush. Therefore, it is sort of an unknown as to what exactly is causing Jones to miss more time.

Can we consider Jones injury prone? Sure. But it’s clearly not time to write him off just yet as he barely had a chance to prove his strengths. A healthy Jones offers the Eagles a ton of upside at the cornerback position. But as Ronald Darby, Jalen Mills, and De’Vante Bausby continue to show out in practice, it is making it a lot harder for Jones to become an instant starter in his Sophomore effort.
