Not everybody thinks that Carson Wentz is a top-ten quarterback in the NFL.

It takes a lot to be a star quarterback in the NFL. Along with the fame and glory comes pressure and unwanted criticism. To be an NFL quarterback, you have to have thick skin. Nobody’s negative evaluation should ever be able to affect the game of an elite passer. Fortunately for the Eagles, they have a quarterback who is as humble as ever and is filled with tons of confidence.

NFL fans realize that quarterback’s typically remain silent when the critics get to talking. So for that, the fans try to do the talking for them. That’s exactly what happened on Monday when former Houston Texans quarterback David Carr gave a slight jab to Carson Wentz. It wasn’t what Carr said, though. It was what Carr did not say.

This past Monday, Carson Wentz made history. He made his debut on the NFL’s Top 100 players list at No. 3. After missing the list last season, Wentz became the first player to land that high on the list after missing out on it after his shaky rookie season. After everybody found out that Wentz was considered a top-five player by his peers, everybody re-visited David Carr’s analysis of his top-ten quarterback’s in the NFL.

Everybody loves a list unless your favorite player is missing. Well, Eagles fans flocked over to Carr’s Twitter after they found out that he left Wentz out of the top-ten quarterback’s in the NFL. The list featured the usual suspects of Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, and Drew Brees. But it also confused some with the additions of Derek Carr, Jimmy Garrappolo, and Matthew Stafford. All of which did not have an MVP-caliber season in 2017 (FYI, Carson Wentz did.)

What was Carr’s reason for leaving Wentz out?

The backlash from Eagles fans caught the attention of the quarterback-turned-analyst on Twitter. Eventually, Carr responded to his followers with a quick and to the point list of why he left out some big names like Carson Wentz and Ben Roethlisberger.

“For clarity… Carson Wentz, IF HEALTHY to start the season is a top 10 QB, hands down.” Carr tweeted out. So to clarify, Carr’s list was targeting the best quarterback’s that are locked in to start off the 2018 season, which Wentz is still questionable for. Although he was not specific at first, Carr’s explanation made things a little bit better. Until he ‘further clarified’ with yet, another slight shot at Wentz.

Does Carr have a point? Absolutely! What Doug Pederson and his coaching staff did when Wentz went down was nothing short of incredible. But do we really think the Eagles get to where they were without Wentz’s elite level of play while he was healthy? Probably not. That’s where everybody gets confused.

Next: Foles remains selfless throughout the offseason

Sure, Nick Foles lit it up for two of the best playoff performances that we saw in Eagles history. But we also saw Foles struggled tremendously towards the end of the season. It was rare to see Wentz struggle while he was on the field in 2017. So while Carr did give Wentz some slight props, he needs to realize that Wentz was selected at No. 2 overall in 2016 for a reason. He is a top-ten quarterback in the NFL, and there’s no way around it.
