Nick Foles remains selfless throughout the offseason
The Philadelphia Eagles have an incredible situation in the quarterback’s room at the Nova Care Complex.
Quarterback controversies in the NFL are all the hype during the offseason. With true franchise quarterback’s becoming harder to come by, many teams analyze multiple guys throughout the offseason to find their starter. We’ve seen it before quite a few times in Philly. With Carson Wentz on board, though. It still makes it difficult for even the Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles to win the number one spot under center.
Typically, an MVP would pack his things and follow the money or a starting position if he was told he would be a backup the following year. Not Foles, though. The 29-year-old veteran remains patient and is more than willing to finish his job in Philadelphia with his original title as the backup.
He may consider other options after this season, but even a guaranteed starting position on another roster still makes it difficult for Foles to leave the city that drafted him and embraced him this past winter. On Sports Illustrated Now, Foles once again addressed the possibility of suiting up for another team. While he said he would consider all other options, Foles made it very clear that he has a great relationship with the Eagles.
What does Foles see in the future?
Ever since the Super Bowl concluded back in February, the trade rumors involving Foles lit up the NFL world. While some teams made some considerate offers, the Eagles ultimately decided that Foles belongs in Philly with the uncertainty of Wentz’s health. While being questioned about his future, Foles acknowledged that 2018 could be his last season in Philadelphia.
As Foles tours around the U.S. promoting his book, he has picked up a ton of airtime on television. And while the majority of the questions are tailored towards the fact that Foles is a backup quarterback, he has made sure that every answer that is given dishes out credit to the guys that he plays with.
“I want him to have a great career, and I want him to remain healthy the entire season even at the expense of me not playing,” Foles spoke about Carson Wentz on FS1’s First Things First show on Wednesday. He also called his fellow backup Nate Sudfeld a stud, while also going back to his naming of the quarterback room to give Joe Callahan some credit as well on SI Now.

It’s inspiring to see how selfless Foles has been since hoisting the Lombardi trophy. And as he leads by example, it can only mean great things for the other young quarterback’s in Philadelphia. Especially for Carson Wentz. Will Foles be here in 2019? It’s unclear. But while he is here, it is great to see him remain humbled and acting as a leader.
