Eagles: What ever happened with Chris Long and that Ken Flajole tattoo?
Once upon a time, Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Chris Long made a bet with a long-time coach and friend, Ken Flajole. What ever happened with that by the way?
It always works out the same way. A joke becomes a bet. A bet, then, takes on a life of its’ own. Such is the case with the Philadelphia Eagles, their linebackers coach, and their star, two-time Super Bowl-winning defensive end. The question is did Chris Long ever get that tattoo of Ken Flajole on his body?
So far, the answer is no, but this one may not be over.
Let’s look back.
If you’re an Eagles fan, you’ve, no doubt, checked out NFL Films‘ highlights of Super Bowl LII. We knew about the bond between Eagles quarterback Nick Foles and Long before Philly’s defensive end found his signal caller on the sideline to belt out ‘What up G.O.A.T.?’ (Foles had just tossed his first touchdown pass of the game).
The time those two spent together with what was then the Saint Louis Rams is well documented. What gets lost is the fact that Long’s journey to Philly reunited him with a former defensive coordinator from Saint Louis.
That coach was Flajole.
A conversation takes on a life of its’ own.
We’ve told you the story before about the conversation. Flajole and Long had a conversation before training camp. That led to a bet. That bet became news. Here’s Flajole’s detail of the events:
People make friendly wagers all of the time, but in this case, the Eagles actually made it to the Super Bowl (and won it). Philly’s linebacker coach wasn’t going to let Long off easy.
Take a look:
"I’m going to hold him to it. Now, if he wants to barter a little bit to get out of it, but I think he’s prepared to do it. I’m sure he’s going to put it in an inconspicuous spot where nobody’s gonna say, ‘Who is that guy?’. I said, ‘Chris, remember one thing, you’re going to be my age one day, and your kids are going to say, “Dad, who is that guy on your arm?” or wherever you put it.’ but he’s a man of his word, so we’ll have fun with it."
Recently, a story released by Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia informed us Long may stay true to his word.
Here’s another quote from Flajole:
"It’s in progress right now. I don’t think it’s done yet. He has showed me the picture and he’s showed me where he’s going to put it. That’s still to be determined. He still hasn’t done it yet. We’ll stay on him about it."
Maybe someone will catch a shot or two of Long during training camp. Then again, who are we going to find that’s going to get close enough to do the examination? We’ll have to wait and see what happens.
