Pro Football Hall of Fame will not mention Terrell Owens at ceremony

Former Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Terrell Owens will have quite the different Hall of Fame inductee experience.

You know the saying, “some things will never change.” Yeah, well neither will Terrell Owens. Ever since the wide receiver’s arrival in the NFL, he has made himself infamous for his off-field actions. But one thing is for sure; nobody has ever denied the miraculous career that Owens has had. And whether you love him or hate him, Owens deserves his spot in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

For the last couple of years, Owens expected to be enshrined in Canton, Ohio forever. Unfortunately, the voting committee was not too fond of the guy. Although we believe that the Hall of Fame should strictly be based around on-field production, there were some signs of the committee going against Owens for his antics over the years.

The great Terrell Owens has spent 15 years playing in the NFL. During that time, he has played under five different teams. One of those teams being the Philadelphia Eagles. Although Owens has only played about a year and a half with the Eagles, his time in Philadelphia was quite significant considering his dominant play in 2004 followed by his sideshow performance when holding out from the team in 2005. So to say that Eagles’ fans are quite familiar with Owens’ Hall of Fame sideshow would be a complete understatement.

For those who aren’t up to date, Owens has decided that he would skip out on the Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Instead, he will hold his own ceremony/party at the University of Tennesee at Chattanooga, where Owens played college ball. While it didn’t seem like a big deal to the NFL, it looks like Owens will be almost completely excluded from the actual ceremony in Canton.

No Props for Terrell?

According to NBC 10 Philadelphia, the Pro Football Hall of Fame will hardly acknowledge Owens this year. The Hall of Fame executive director Joe Horrigan stated that Owens would not be introduced. And on top of that, he won’t receive his honorary gold jacket until after the actual ceremony takes place next month.

Horrigan attempted to make it as clear as possible that they are not spiteful towards Owens. Their goal is to make all of the focus on the guys in attendance, rather than the guy who has decided to do things his own way, which is totally okay, obviously.

Next: An interesting question for every position

Owens decision to hold his own ceremony is fine, and is also the furthest thing from surprising. We all probably assumed that the day Owens gets inducted would be completely different in comparison to anyone else. Not showing up at all is just as typical as well. It would’ve been nice for Eagles fans to see two former players go in at once, but we figured all of the attention would be on Brian Dawkins anyway. So no harm, no foul, Terrell. Eagles fans will be just fine with this decision next month.
