Flashback Friday: Philadelphia Eagles show out in Week 9
November was a magical month for the Philadelphia Eagles, and it all started with a Week 9 victory against the Denver Broncos at Lincoln Financial Field.
When the Denver Broncos came to Philly on November 5th to kick off 2017’s 11th month, the Philadelphia Eagles were in the midst of a huge win streak.
‘The Birds’ had won their last six games and everyone was expecting that Philly would make it seven with a win against the 3-4 Broncos. After all, Denver was 0-3 in road match-ups at this point in the season. Philly was 4-0 at home.
The prediction proved to be correct as the home gteam walked all over the Broncos and then some. The Eagles went on to win 51-23.
Let’s take a look back at how the Birds captured this victory.
Four is the magic number. At least for Wentz, it is.
Are you guys getting tired of hearing about Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz? If so, get over it. Sorry, but there is a reason that the man almost won league MVP. There were few games where he wasn’t the main factor, so one might want to expect more Wentz talk.
By this point in the season, most were expecting ‘Number 11’ to go out and throw three or four touchdowns in a single game. There were few games where he didn’t do so.
The Broncos game was another one of those four-touchdown performances. Wentz threw for almost 200 yards and four scores. He was also 15 for 27 on the day. Two of those four touchdowns came when Wentz found his receiver Alshon Jeffery. ‘Number 17’ not only finished the game with two scores. He also had six receptions for 84 yards. Wentz also hit his tight end Trey Burton and running back Corey Clement for scores.
Clement goes crazy.
That undrafted rookie running back had some pretty impressive games during his debut NFL season. Include his performance in Week 9 as one of them.
Clement scored three times against Denver. His first touchdown came in the first quarter on a fifteen-yard pass from Wentz.
His other two scores came on the ground in the second half. He rushed for a two-yard touchdown in the third quarter, His final touchdown was scored in garbage time on a four-yard run.
This was the game where the former Wisconsin Badgers standout caught the attention of fans. He sure caught my attention.

The Philadelphia Eagles defense delivers.
The Birds’ defense had a game to remember against Denver. While they didn’t force many turnovers, their presence was made known to their opponents.
Philadelphia Eagles
Just ask Denver’s quarterback, Brock Osweiler. It seemed like he was hurried or pressured on every other play. A lot of the pressure was due to Philadelphia defensive end Fletcher Cox. He recorded one hit and seven hurries on Osweiler.
Cox manhandled Bronco’s Ronald Leary, who he was matched up against. Leary allowed six pressures when matched up against Cox. The best part was Leary hadn’t allowed more than one pressure in a game all season.
The entire defensive line made Week 9 a nightmare for Osweiler and the Denver offense.
The Eagles defense also forced two turnovers. Both on Osweiler interceptions.
The defense helped the Eagles claim their eighth win, and keep the win streak alive. Philly was now 8-1 on the season, and 5-0 at home.
