Philadelphia Eagles’ D-line is the deepest position group in entire NFL

The Philadelphia Eagles’ defensive line was given the nod as the deepest position group in the entire NFL recently.

Sometimes, even the best journalists, look around the web to see what other people are talking about. We’re less than two weeks away from the beginning of the Philadelphia Eagles‘ 2018 training camp. With no on-field action to discuss, it becomes easy for minds to wander and for Google searches to be employed.

What we sometimes refer to as ‘the dead spell’ is almost over. Thank goodness for that. We’ve all debated roster battles, power rankings and who might shine or flop. We, at ITI, have had a tendency to watch what others are saying about the defending Super Bowl Champions.

Finally, a countdown that got it right.

Off-season journalism hasn’t been too kind to ‘The Birds’. Their fans have been dissed, but that’s not all. Their coach has too (who knows why Doug Pederson wasn’t named last season’s Coach of the Year by the NFL. Here’s some news Eagles fans may find satisfying. Recently, Around The NFL writer Chris Wesseling ranked the NFL’s deepest position groups.

Eagles fans may actually be satisfied with this ranking as Wesseling sees Philly’s defensive line as the deepest position group in the entire league.

Take a look at some of the commentary:

"Philadelphia Eagles defensive line: Should we throw in the offensive line, as well? The Eagles dominated in the trenches en route to the Super Bowl LII title, pushing teams around on offense and sending waves of pass rushers on defense. While reigning Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald of the Rams is the cream of the crop, Philadelphia’s earth-moving Fletcher Cox isn’t far behind among interior linemen."

Here are some early thoughts.

Timmy Jernigan is working his way back from injury. That could mean the early thought by many is ‘The Birds’ are looking at the prospect of going into the regular season with Brandon Graham, Fletcher Cox, Destiny Vaeao, and Derek Barnett as the starters.

That isn’t too shabby. Just in case you’re keeping score, that means Philly could have Jernigan, Michael Bennett, Elijah Qualls, Chris Long and Haloti Ngata as the reserves.

Here’s a test. You name a defensive line coach or a defensive coordinator who can’t work those guys into his scheme. If you can, maybe you should shoot him an email and inform him the scheme may need to be changed. If everybody can get healthy, there won’t be a team or an offensive coordinator that’s looking forward to seeing Philly on the schedule.
