Eagles talk: Does the NFL belong to Carson Wentz now?

Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz can rule more than just the NFC East. He may be able to rule the entire NFL for quite some time.

Perhaps the biggest story of the 2017 regular season in ‘The City of Brotherly Love’ was the massive leap Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz made in his sophomore campaign. Wentz removed every thought about a ‘slump’ when he threw for 3,296 yards and 33 touchdowns before seeing his season end prematurely in week 14 with an ACL and MCL injury.

With that injury, his MVP-worthy season ended with less than a month to go before the votes were tallied. Eagles fans had seen enough however. The Wentz Wagon is sure to roll through Philly for years to come.

Fire up the Wentz Wagon.

It’s been said over and over. In order to win in the NFL, you have to figure out the quarterback position. The Eagles have done that. Sure, Wentz showed signs as a rookie, but the game really slowed down as a second-year signal caller. The right reads were made. So were the right passes.

Wentz is figuring NFL defenses out already. If he’s this good now, think of where he might be by year five. Where might he be in his tenth season? It’s scary to think about if you cheer for his rivals, but it may make you salivate if you’re an Eagles fan.

Can any NFC East team soar with the Eagles?

Then, there’s something else to consider. Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady aren’t going to play much longer. Once they’re gone, the NFL will belong, almost completely, to Mr. Wentz.

The New York Giants passed on Sam Darnold, and Eli Manning is getting long in the tooth. Dak Prescott is serviceable for the Dallas Cowboys, but he clearly isn’t Wentz. The Washington Redskins have placed a Band-Aid on their quarterback situation with Alex Smith.

When you look around the rest of the NFC it becomes difficult to find a legitimate adversary or rival. You could argue that may be Jared Goff of the Los Angeles Rams. He is surrounded by great talent. He does have one of the best young coaches in the NFL, but most would argue Wentz is a little ahead of Goff at this point.

Expect quite a few division titles in Philly’s future. It may not be ridiculous to assume the Eagles will be in the title hunt for a while either.
