Wide receiver Mike Wallace has already fallen in love with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Roster battles are in full swing early in training camp, but there are a few members of this Philadelphia Eagles team that don’t have anything to worry about. Throw one of the newer guys, wide receiver Mike Wallace, in that category. Philly decided it was both structurally and financially feasible to move on from Torrey Smith after one season in Eagles green.

Smith started in 11 of the 13 regular season games he appeared in during the 2017 NFL season. The Eagles didn’t quite get what they wanted from him early. A three-year deal worth $15 million bought them 33 receptions for 408 yards and two touchdowns (he also lost three yards on one carry), but when the postseason kick started, so did Smith.

He became a reliable target for Foles, and in the NFC Championship Game, he found himself on the receiving end of what is easily the most famous flea flicker in Eagles history.

The Eagles swap one ex-Raven for another.

When Philly signed Smith on March 9th of 2017, they gave themselves the options of turning down his second and third-year options. On March 9th of 2018, they, instead, found a trade partner. They sent Smith to the Carolina Panthers in exchange for cornerback Darryl Worley.

Wallace was signed on March 22nd, and on most of our imaginary depth charts, we could probably all agree that the plan, at least at this point, is to have Wallace start opposite of Alshon Jeffery once the regular season begins and the games start counting for real.

Here’s a quote from Wallace courtesy of the Eagles’ official website:

"This is what I want. I embrace this role, I embrace this team, I embrace the responsibility and the expectations of being on this team, that’s why I came here. If I was trying to shy away from it, I would have went to another team that doesn’t have as many big expectations."

That says it all, Wallace appears comfortable in his new nest. If he’s the upgrade from Torrey Smith that some believe him to be, then look out. We may be primed for more offensive explosions in Philly.
