Philadelphia Eagles: 10 observations from week one of the preseason

How did the Philadelphia Eagles do during their preseason debut against the Pittsburgh Steelers?

The Philadelphia Eagles kicked off the start of the preseason with a roller coaster ride of a performance. Although there were some flashes of positivity early on, the back end of the depth chart did not look so strong at times. For that, the Eagles took a loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers 31-14. Granted, the Eagles were without many key players, but as always, there is still room for improvement over the next few weeks.

Preseason isn’t necessarily for entertainment. It’s more about the young guys trying to gain some NFL experience and for the roster hopefuls to prove their worth while trying to make the final 53-man roster. Clearly, one week’s worth of film isn’t going to dictate the final moves of the season. There are still three weeks left for these guys to improve their game.

So before we dive into the ten observations for week one, we have to note that there were a few big names that were excluded from Thursday nights game. The obvious one being quarterback’s Carson Wentz and Nick Foles, along with wide receiver Alshon Jeffery due to injuries. Then, wide receiver Nelson Agholor, tight end Zach Ertz, and running back Darren Sproles got the night off as well.

For the defense, special teamer Chris Maragos and defensive end Brandon Graham remain out due to their injuries suffered from last season. Okay, now that we got that out of the way, let’s dive into some of the positive and negative observations from week one of the preseason!
