Destiny Vaeao, DT

Destiny Vaeao has quietly been waiting for an opportunity over the last two seasons. The 24-year-old defensive tackle has sat behind some stellar talent in Fletcher Cox and Beau Allen. Now, with Allen out of the picture and Timmy Jernigan injured, Vaeao needs to assure the Eagles that he is ready to step up to the plate and do his job.

Rumors have been flying around that veteran defensive tackle Haloti Ngata has been significantly underwhelming in practice. It could have something to do with the fact that practice may not mean much to a seasoned veteran, but we can’t just sit back and chalk it up as that.

The Eagles top-notch defense all starts with the big men up front, and surprisingly, Fletcher Cox cannot do it all on his own. Jim Schwartz will most likely utilize Michael Bennett inside more often than not, but Vaeao’s preseason performances should dictate how much they rotate certain guys in and out. Last week, he didn’t register any stats. This week will be Vaeao’s second chance to prove that he belongs in the rotation this season.
