A familiar face is gone from the Philadelphia Eagles. A new one is added, and the team assembles their practice squad.

Don’t expect any more days off for the Philadelphia Eagles now that the NFL‘s regular season is in full swing. One day after decreasing their roster from around 89 guys to the mandatory 53-man limit, Philly’s brass and coaches went back to work, adding ten guys to their practice squad and releasing a familiar face at linebacker to make room for another newbie.

Let’s get into the details.

First, let’s discuss the practice squad.

To some, it’s been called ‘football limbo’. Every team’s practice squad gives another shot to the guys who didn’t quite make the roster. Some are poached by other NFL teams. Others continue to work their tails off to make some headway on the team they’re already on.

If there’s an unfortunate injury to one of their teammates on the active roster, they could be elevated. Otherwise, they show up, try to get noticed and continue to compete to stay on the forefront of their coaches’ minds.

Chances are, if they don’t get their shot this season, they’ll get another opportunity the following season and the process repeats itself.

On Sunday, the Eagles announced the ten members of their practice squad, and it includes tight end Billy Brown, wide receivers Greg Ward and Rashard Davis, center Jon Toth and running back Josh Adams on the offensive side of the ball.

On defense, they add defensive tackle Winston Craig, defensive end Joe Ostman and linebacker Asantay Brown to go along with cornerbacks Chandon Sullivan and De’Vante Bausby.

That’s not all.

Philly also shuffled the deck at linebacker a tad by releasing third-year veteran linebacker Joe Walker. In his place, they picked up D.J. Alexander from the Seattle Seahawks.

Philly needed some insurance at linebacker seeing as how both Walker and starting middle linebacker Jordan Hicks have both never shown a propensity to stay healthy.

For his career, Alexander has a mere 39 tackles compared to just ten total tackles that Walker’s picked up during his brief stint in the NFL. Keep an eye on Mr. Alexander though. We’ll all be waiting to see how this works out.
