Philadelphia Eagles may not see DeSean Jackson in Week 2
Buccaneers wideout DeSean Jackson has always been a conversation piece for Philadelphia Eagles fans. Now, with a Week 2 matchup approaching against Tampa, Jackson may be relegated to the role of spectator.
During his Week 2 presser on Wednesday, Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson was very complimentary of someone “Birds’ fans are very familiar with. As he wrapped up what was about a thirteen minute conversation with the Philly media, the topic shifted to former Eagles and current Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver DeSean Jackson.
Tampa’s deep threat makes defensive coordinators stay up at night, and when he’s on the field, even at age 31, Jackson still provides nightmare matchups for opposing defenses.
Jameis Winston is out for the Bucs. We all know Ryan Fitzpatrick has a cannon for an arm, and Philly’s secondary, particularly cornerback Jalen Mills, has a tendency to be had by double moves and/or the deep ball.
There’s just one thing. DeSean Jackson may not be on the field when the Eagles take on the Bucs in Tampa for Week 2 of the 2018 regular season.
Here’s what we have.
Greg Auman spent 19 years at the Tampa Bay Times. He currently covers the Bucs for TheAthletic.com, and on Tuesday, he reported that both Jackson and Tampa’s brilliant young corner Vernon Hargreaves were question marks for Week 2.
Take a look:
Jackson has been dealing with shoulder issues since the Bucs’ offensive onslaught in New Orleans. In addition to that, he’s also in the league’s concussion protocol. Hargreaves, as mentioned by Auman, was also dealing with a shoulder injury, but since then, we’ve learned the Buccaneers have opted to put him on the team’s IR (injured reserve).
Tampa may be a tad undermanned on Sunday as left tackle Donovan Smith missed practice time with a knee issue, and starting right guard Caleb Benenoch was limited with a knee issue of his own. As of now, there’s been no official word on whether they’ll play or not.
Anyone looking for some former Eagles to get beat up on will have to settle for watching former ‘Birds’ Vinny Curry and Beau Allen along Tampa’s defensive line.
