After expecting a bounce-back in week two, many Philadelphia Eagles fans were shocked to see the lack of Dallas Goedert.

The Philadelphia Eagles had a rough day at Raymond James Stadium on Sunday. A 27-21 upset by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers has left many Eagles fans in question about what was displayed on the field. While the defense had its ups and downs, the offense once again looked lost. Although the final score ended as a one-possession game, it was never really close, to begin with.

The passing game has been a highlighted struggle for the Eagles, and on Sunday the issues have grown more prominent. It’s quite evident that the receiver corps is at an all-time low since 2016. Therefore, we would expect Doug Pederson to utilize a heavy dose of the two tight ends, Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert. Ertz bounced back this week with a season-high of 11 catches for 94-yards. Meanwhile, Goedert was pretty much absent from the game.

Last week, Goedert had one catch for three yards against the Atlanta Falcons. He was also responsible for an interception as he lost the ball when he took on instant impact after a catch. While it was chalked up as growing pains from a rookie, maybe the Eagles don’t feel like he was ready after a rough game last week.

We’re looking for answers:

Eagles head coach Doug Pederson won’t issue too much information on the fact that second-year veteran tight end Josh Perkins found himself getting a lot more snaps than the 2018 second-round pick. Although Perkins had his moments, he was sort of inconsistent throughout the day. His final stat line ended up being four catches for 57-yards, but his multiple drops have had more of a significance on the game considering the Eagles were desperate to move the ball.

It’s becoming quite apparent that Goedert may not be ready to take on a more significant workload in the eyes of the coaching staff. The heavy utilization of Perkins was unexpected, as Goedert was the second-string tight end headed into week two. But after what the Eagles put on display this past Sunday, the depth chart just might change. Maybe Goedert isn’t ready to be the one-two punch alongisde Ertz right away. It will be interesting to see how this plays out next week.
