There won’t be any need for the underdog masks on Sunday as the Philadelphia Eagles open as heavy favorites over the Indianapolis Colts.

The day has finally come. Nine months ago, we got our last glimpse of in-game action with Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz as ‘Number 11’ threw a team record 33rd touchdown pass while standing on a torn ACL and LCL.

Surgery came, rehabilitation followed and on September 17th, every Eagles fan got the news that they’ve been waiting to hear for quite some time. Wentz makes his long-awaited return on Sunday, September 23rd versus the Indianapolis Colts.

Perhaps that’s why, when the initial lines on the game dropped, Philly was being seen as the favorites to leave Lincoln Financial Field on that day with another check mark in the win column.

Let’s take a look.

According to Sportsbook Review, the Eagles are anywhere from six to seven point favorites over the Colts. Oddsmakers like PINNACLE, BOOKMAKER, BETONLINE, and BOVADA see ‘The Birds’ as six-point favorites. YOUWAGER.eu sees Philly as six-and-a-half point favorites.

5Dimes, on the other hand, thinks the Eagles are winning by a touchdown.

Here’s what Wentz is up against.

Once upon a time, Colts quarterback Andrew Luck was supposed to be the heir apparent to the throne. Injuries, bad decisions by management and head coaches who weren’t quite up to snuff have derailed that slightly, but Luck is back.

He hasn’t quite looked like the guy Indianapolis thought would carry on the previous success they had enjoyed with Peyton Manning yet, but hope has been restored among the Colts faithful. He has a competent head coach now, former Eagles offensive coordinator Frank Reich.

Luck needs to get back in the swing of things, having only posted a pedestrian four touchdowns and three interceptions in his first two starts, but Reich’s just getting started in Indy.

On Sunday, he returns to Philly in hopes that his new signal caller can win the duel against Wentz, who Reich spent the last two years mentoring.

As an Eagles fan, you have to hope that doesn’t happen.
