The Philadelphia eagles keep themselves busy by welcoming Dexter McDougle back to the roster. In corresponding moves, they also released Destiny Vaeao and readjusted their practice squad.

There are truly no days off in the NFL. Most of us thought the Philadelphia Eagles would be busy, especially with the trade deadline approaching, and they have been. A little before dinner on October 16th, they re-signed a well-traveled cornerback and former Eagle Dexter McDougle.

In subsequent moves, they also said goodbye to defensive tackle Destiny Vaeao, and they added defensive tackle Winston Craig to the practice squad after releasing linebacker Kyle Wilson.

Here’s an official announcement from the team’s Twitter account:

Let’s dig a little deeper.

There’s no guarantee that McDougle will see a ton of playing time immediately, if at all, but it’s not unlikely that he might see the field.

If you’re familiar with him you should be. He was traded to ‘The Birds’ on August 27th of 2017 in exchange for Terrence Brooks.

During the 2017 campaign he appeared in eight games, mostly on special teams as he mostly served as a backup for Philly’s starting slot corner, Patrick Robinson.

Now, with the injury to second-year corner Sidney Jones IV and with the need for Philly to shift some bodies around, namely second-year man Rasul Douglas and rookie Avante Maddox, depth in the secondary had to be addressed.

Vaeao, who made the Eagles roster as an undrafted rookie in 2016, now sees his NFL future rest in football limbo. He’s recorded 27 tackles and three sacks in his NFL career and has even been the starter in three games this season, but all of that is a mute point now.

He’s simply looking to land on another team’s roster.
