Philadelphia Eagles should inquire about DeVante Parker
After a big night on Thursday Night Football, Miami Dolphins wide receiver DeVante Parker should have the Eagles interested.
As the trade deadline approaches, there are plenty of ‘showcases’ going on around the league. Knowing Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman, he is surely watching. Reports have gone around the league over the last couple of weeks that the Eagles are heavily involved in making calls for trades. But with the deadline less than a week away, they haven’t made anything happen just yet.
There are a few positions of interest. Safety, cornerback, running back, and wide receiver seem to be the most popular for the Eagles at the moment. Seeing their stockpile of draft picks for 2019, don’t be surprised to see a move or two after Sunday’s game in London. Roseman and the Eagles will have a long flight back, so there will be plenty of time to strategize in the air.
Seeing how the season has gone so far, there’s a good chance that the Eagles are on the hunt for an offensive weapon. A trade for Le’Veon Bell or LeSean McCoy is what all of the talks about, but with the way the Eagles throw the ball, a wide receiver might make more sense for the Birds.
Rumor has it that they were interested in Amari Cooper, but now that’s out of the question. So the next two wideouts would be Demaryius Thomas from the Denver Broncos and DeVante Parker from the Miami Dolphins.
Who should the Eagles make a call for?
A few years ago, trading for Thomas would be a great idea. He was on top of his game with Peyton Manning, but it’s clear that it wasn’t an option for Denver to move their number one target.
Nowadays, Thomas isn’t as productive as he once was. His last big season was in 2016, and he doesn’t look much improved this season. And at this point, it sounds like the Broncos are just going to roll with the 30-year-old receiver for 2018.
Parker, on the other hand, makes a lot more sense for the Eagles. He’s 25-years-old and wouldn’t become a free agent until after the 2019 season. Although Parker hasn’t been utilized much in the Dolphins offense, his performance on Thursday Night Football this week was a prime example of why teams should be calling the Dolphins for his services.
Against the Houston Texans, Parker caught six of his nine targeted passes for 134 yards. His performance was not only a major confidence booster for the wide receiver, but it was also a great way to show teams like the Eagles that he still has it.
With the Eagles being ranked 19th in yards-per-game, and 22nd in points-per-game, they need a boost on offense. It’s clear that Zach Ertz and Alshon Jeffery are going to start drawing too much attention from defenses, so the Eagles need more weapons to be able to make plays.
At this point, Nelson Agholor hasn’t been much of a factor, and the Eagles need a speedy deep threat. Parker wouldn’t solve every problem on the team, but he would surely fill the void of Mike Wallace, who the Eagles are definitely missing in their offense right now.
