Philadelphia Eagles turn Wembley Stadium into a home-field advantage
In a world of fair-weather and fickle fans, the Philadelphia Eagles fans prove again why they’re among the best in sports.
It’s going to be hard to verify this with any real statistics, but take our word for it. When, the Philadelphia Eagles and Jacksonville Jaguars took the field for an early-morning game at Wembley Stadium, Philly’s fans took up about 80 percent of the seats.
Hey, we’ll never know if that’s a fact, but based on the eyeball test, that isn’t a very wild statement.
Is Philly the U.K.’s team?
Let’s be honest, it still makes most of us sick to live in this great country and call the Dallas Cowboys, of all the NFL franchises, ‘America’s Team’. It’s a phrase that makes one scratch their head when many of the Cowboys’ fans tend to abandon ship when things don’t go right.
Meanwhile, in London, as Philly scratched and clawed their way to a 24-18 win, Eagles fans in attendance erupted as every touchdown was scored.
They did their best to make life uncomfortable for Blake Bortles and the Jags offense. They even booed when the officials blew it on an unnecessary roughness penalty against Nigel Bradham.
Sunday marked the sixth time Jacksonville played in London, but it was clear the loudest cheers were reserved for ‘The Birds’. This despite the fact that Philly was making their first regular-season appearance at Wembley Stadium.
Eagles head coach Doug Pederson later stated it felt like a ‘home game.’
Check out some of the highlights:
Philly will now enter their bye week with a mark of 4-4. The NFL trade deadline is approaching, and while some of the word has been that Howie Roseman has been busy, rumor has it that whenever he’s expressed any interest in someone. the asking price by some of these other NFL teams has been too high.
We’ll see if any new guys are added. Next up on the slate of games is a November 11th date with, cough.. cough… ‘America’s Team’.
