Positivity continues to dwindle around the Novacare Complex as Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson announces Ronald Darby’s season is over.

What a difference a week makes. Well, we’ll start two weeks ago. The Monday following the Philadelphia Eagles‘ first-ever regular season win in London, things felt better. Philly was now a .500 team, and we were discussing where to place Ronald Darby and the other guys as we tried to juggle a secondary that was, now, without Sidney Jones.

Hope saw a rebirth in the Eagles fan base as Philly added Golden Tate at the NFL trade deadline. Then, the unexpected happened. The Eagles lost a game everyone expected them to win against the rival Dallas Cowboys, and once again, Philly had a sub .500 record at 4-5.

It’s only a game, but it was a big one. Four of the Eagles’ five losses have come courtesy of NFC teams. They, now, trail the division-leading Washington Redskins by two games. There are seven left to play, and road games versus the Los Angeles Rams and New Orleans Saints still have to take place.

If the Eagles have to battle their way into a playoff spot as a Wildcard, that will be tough with seven or more in-conference losses on their resume. Couple that with the fact that those high-powered offenses they’ll face don’t have to prepare Jalen Mills and they may not have to prepare for Sidney Jones, and it’s easy to see why some fans are settling in to the idea that 2018 may not be the year for their ‘Birds’.

Oh, and by the way, when Doug Pederson spoke to the media the Monday afternoon after their Sunday night tilt with Dallas, he was, again, the bearer of bad news. Though Jones is ‘close’ and Mills is ‘a little further away’, Ronald Darby has a torn ACL and is done for the season.

Take a look:

The Eagles will, now, travel to ‘The Big Easy’ to face the Saints without their top three cover guys. Things could get ugly. Well, at least Philly gets to wear their home jerseys in the Saints house. That was a joke. Give us some credit. We’re trying to lighten the mood here.
