Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson is optimistic about Sidney Jones, and Timmy Jernigan returning very soon.

Week after week, there’s somebody new added to the Philadelphia Eagles injury report. Just as a few guys are starting to get healthier, more players are taken out of the picture. Cornerback Ronald Darby is now out for the season, and tight end Joshua Perkins is fighting a knee injury as well. Now, the Eagles head into a tough situation against the New Orleans Saints on the road.

Fortunately, the Eagles could have a couple of guys back this week. Cornerback Sidney Jones and defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan are trending up towards returning. Although Pederson won’t put a set date on their return, he did say that he was optimistic that they would be back for Week 11’s matchup against the Saints.

Jones had the opportunity to start the year off, but he went down with an injury on Thursday Night Football during week six. He has yet to return to the field, as he is dealing with hamstring issues. As for Jernigan, he hasn’t played a single snap since last year. During an offseason workout, Jernigan suffered a herniated disc that required surgery. He returned to practice last week, but his game status is still up in the air.

Doug is optimistic

At this point, we have to take everything that Doug Pederson says with a grain of salt if it’s regarding injuries. He hasn’t been very informative with injury updates at all this season, and his optimism hasn’t really meant anything positive over the last few weeks. Hopefully, his gut feeling about Jones and Jernigan is correct this time around, but we won’t count on it.

The Eagles are in desperate need of some help up front on defense, and in the secondary, so getting Jones and Jernigan back would be a massive plus for this week’s game. We would have to assume that they will both be game-time decisions if they do both practice at all this week. With Week 11 being a must-win game for the Eagles, the team is definitely going to need all of the help that they can get.
