Injuries on the Offense

Carson Wentz missing the start of the year due to his ACL tear week 14 against the Los Angeles Rams, already started the team off on the wrong foot. Don’t get me wrong, Nick Foles is excellent, but having Wentz miss time was not the best for the Eagles.

Carson needed to shake off the rust and get used to the flow of the game again, and the entire team had played with Foles for six games (four pre-season), so adjusting back to Wentz was difficult as well. Carson Wentz has returned and is getting back to the groove he had during his almost-MVP season last year.

The Eagles started the year with a shallow receiving core due to their primary receiver, Alshon Jeffery missing the first three games recovering from the shoulder injury he played through the end of last season with.

Sophomore receiver, Mack Hollins, injured his groin before the regular season started. And Mike Wallace hurt his foot in week three, resulting in them both being put on IR. Even when Jeffery came back, the depth at the receiver position was shallow, but the Eagles responded with trading a third-round pick to the Detroit Lions for Golden Tate.

The Eagles running game is one of the key offensive elements that propelled them to the Super Bowl last season. Darren Sproles decided to play one more season, but he has been hindered from a nagging hamstring injury. He was set to return last week but reinjured the hamstring again and still is out of practice, so there is no return date in mind for the Eagles electric 3rd down back.
