The Philadelphia Eagles have named their nominee for the NFL’s Walter Payton Man of the Year award, and it’s defensive end Chris Long.

Sometimes, it’s nice to see great people get noticed for doing the right things, especially when those people do those things because it’s right (and not because they want attention). You could literally talk about Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Chris Long’s contributions daily. You’d never have to recycle anything either.

Because of his constant commitment to make the lives of others better, his team has nominated him for the NFL‘s Walter Payton Man of the Year award.

Take a look:

It’s still hard to believe that this man donated his entire salary in 2017 to charity. Then, he donated his first four game checks in 2018 in an effort to help launch his First Quarter for Literacy program. Its’ intent is to provide free books, literacy resources and mentoring services.

All of this comes after his launch of the Chris Long Foundation in 2015 which has provided clean water and focuses on military appreciation, homelessness and youth.

Here’s a clip of him finding out about his nomination.

Here’s a quote from the man himself:

"It’s an honor to be named the Eagles 2018 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year nominee and to be in the company of 31 of my peers that have proven their commitment and dedication to bettering their communities. I’m humbled by this recognition and energized to continue to improve the lives of those most at risk at home and around the world."

The winner of the Walter Payton Man of the Year receives $500,000 in donations that will be distributed in their name. $250,000 is given to the NFL and United Way’s digital character education program, Character Playbook.

The other $250,000 is given to a charity of the winner’s choice. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell issued this statement:

"The Man of the Year Award gives us the opportunity to acknowledge 32 exemplary players whose commitment to excellence extends on and off the field. This year’s nominees have used their platforms to transform communities across the country. We are proud of their work and celebrate their dedication and impact through this award."

The winner will be announced on February 2nd, the night before the Super Bowl.
