Jordan Matthews knew something was off with Carson Wentz
It wasn’t a secret around the Philadelphia Eagles locker room that something was wrong with their starting quarterback, Carson Wentz.
The Carson Wentz drama has reached new heights on Thursday when the team found out that he did fracture his back. Wentz will miss this week’s game, and considering the circumstances will probably miss the rest of the season as well. We all figured something was off with Wentz after watching him week after week, but the team knew a lot more behind the scenes. And wide receiver Jordan Matthews confirms that he knew Wentz was not one-hundred percent.
Not a ton of people thought that Carson Wentz just lost his mojo since his knee injury. He returned during week three, and for his first few games back he was posting very impressive numbers. But after taking an unfavorable amount of hits during the first few weeks, Wentz ended up dealing with some back soreness as early as October.
According to the Eagles and their medical staff, they were unaware of any serious injury. It turns out, Wentz does have a fractured vertebrae but it just wasn’t noticeable until recently. While it’s tough to hear considering everything that Wentz has been through over the past year, at the same time it’s a bit of a relief to know that Wentz has finally figured out the answer to his struggles. It was clear that his body wasn’t right, and it’s good to see that they figured out the cause of the issues over the last month or so.
Jordan Matthews knew that Wentz wasn’t right
Like many of us, Matthews is now looking at Wentz’s numbers from the games that he did play this season and is quite impressed. Wentz threw for a little over 3,000 yards with 21 touchdowns and seven interceptions in 11 games. Despite not playing a full season again, Wentz did put up the best passer rating of his young career with 102.2.
If Wentz does end up getting ruled out for the rest of the year, at least the timetable for his back injury won’t be too significant. Assuming that he rests up without any setbacks, Wentz will definitely be ready to work at the beginning of the 2019 offseason. Although he was around for most of last year’s workouts, he was still practicing on a limited basis. This time around is different though. Wentz will get a full offseason, plus preseason before kicking off the 2019 season.
