For the Philadelphia Eagles, the path to the playoffs is far from easy. However, the Redskins’ loss to the Titans, improved the Eagles’ odds. Just a bit.

The Philadelphia Eagles have a huge task ahead of them, as they look to their Sunday afternoon matchup with the Houston Texans.

The Birds currently sit at 7-7. If they want to keep their playoff hopes alive, they will need to knock off the leaders of the AFC South..

Philadelphia’s definitely the underdogs, as the 10-4 Texans have been impressive this year. After dropping their first three games, Houston improved dramatically, and a nine-game winning streak followed.

Although Sunday’s game against Houston is the main focus, the Eagles can’t help but be concerned with a few other teams and their games as well.

There are a few teams that stand in Philly’s way. Most notably, the Dallas Cowboys and the Minnesota Vikings. The Eagles lost to the 7-6-1 Vikings early in the season, and they’ll need Minnesota to lose one of their remaining games. Philly would have to win out. If that happens, the Eagles clinch an NFC Wildcard spot.

Then, there’s the Washington Redskins who entered Saturday as a team who was right on Philly’s heels.

The Eagles know that they need to beat the Redskins in Week 17, but they were also hoping for a Washington loss on Saturday.

Well, they got their wish. The Redskins fell to the Tennessee Titans, by a score of 25-16. This one came down to the wire. The Titans scored the go ahead touchdown with 4:30 to play in the ball game. That pushed the score to 19-16. A couple interceptions by Washington’s quarterback Josh Johnson, would ice the game late.

With that loss, the Eagles’ playoff chances have improved. Their chances improved from 39 percent to 41 percent. That isn’t a big leap, but it’s still noticeable.

Now, the Eagles focus their attention on the Texans. It’s time to take advantage of this early Christmas gift from the Redskins.

They may even get a bigger gift from the Cowboys tomorrow. Hey, it could happen. Well, Eagles fans can hope so anyway.
