Philadelphia Eagles: Nick Foles feels good, but needs extra protection this week
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles is still dealing with some pain, but he will be extra cautious this Sunday in Chicago.
The Philadelphia Eagles have suffered a ton of injuries in 2018. At one point, the roster had a bunch of names that nobody has even heard of. Although the team is excelling, the health on the roster is still far from ideal. Not only is their starting quarterback Carson Wentz out with a back injury, but their backup quarterback Nick Foles is also dealing with an injury of his own.
Two weeks ago, Foles played a hard-fought game against the Houston Texans. Foles was lights out all game long, but it came with a price to pay. While the Eagles were shorthanded up front with the loss of Jason Peters, Foles ended up taking a beating from Texans pass rusher, Jadeveon Clowney. And after a vicious cheap shot that led to Clowney getting fined a significant amount of money, Foles ended up missing a play due to an injury.
Assuming that he just got the wind knocked out of him, Foles came right back into the game to finish off the job. Fortunately, the Eagles became victorious, and Foles would leave the medical room cleared from any long-term injury. Initially, Foles was diagnosed with bruised ribs and would be cleared for the following game against the Washington Redskins. As we all know, Foles would eventually get pulled from that game as well. Except for this time, he didn’t return.
Foles will be fine, but he has to stay protected
This week, the Eagles will travel to Chicago to take on the Bears for the first round of the playoffs. Knowing that it’s a do-or-die situation, Foles is doing everything that he can to play to the best of his ability. With Wentz being uncleared to play, the Eagles have confirmed that Foles will lead the charge once again on Sunday as he is going to play through his ribs injury.
Right now, Foles is sore, but he expects to feel a lot better on Sunday. As his health is improving each day, there isn’t enough contact in practice to set him back, which is excellent for the Eagles. Hopefully, the Eagles offensive line can keep him protected though. As the Chicago Bears have one of the better pass rushers in the league lined up on the Eagles weak side, Foles could be in a world of trouble if Peters struggles this Sunday.
In order to keep Foles healthy, the Eagles will make sure they get extra help from their tight ends and running backs when it comes to blocking Kahlil Mack. And just in case Mack gets a few open shots in on Foles, the Eagles quarterback will wear some extra protection for his ribs. It won’t be too much, as Foles does not want to affect his movement. But he will have to remain cautious, so his injury does not get any worse than it currently is.
