The Philadelphia Eagles will not see the return of a couple of key players against the New Orleans Saints this week.

We’re under two hours away from kickoff, and the Philadelphia Eagles have arrived at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome to get ready for their Divisional Playoff matchup against the New Orleans Saints. We all remembered what happened back in Week 11 when the Saints manhandled the Eagles by 41 points. This time around, though, the Eagles are a much tougher team. After that initial matchup, the Eagles have visibly heated up, while the Saints cooled down a bit on their road to the number one seed in the NFC.

While the Eagles undoubtedly played their worst game against the Saints earlier in the year, they could blame a few injuries for the struggles. Let’s not forget, the Eagles young and inexperienced secondary was dealing with a ton of growing pains at the time as their starting cornerbacks were out, along with their starting safety. Rookie cornerback Avonte Maddox was attempting to play at safety during that week but ended up suffering an injury.

Second-year cornerback Sidney Jones was already dealing with hamstring issues that week while playing on the outside for the first time in his NFL career. And on the other side of the secondary, a struggling Rasul Douglas also ended up battling an injury as well. This time around though, the Eagles are on fire, and healthy. Well, at least, they’re healthy enough.

Who will miss the second-round game?

As expected, the Eagles will not activate their quarterback Carson Wentz once again. Throughout the week, Doug Pederson teased a potential Wentz return as a backup, but ultimately he made it known that Nate Sudfeld was going to backup Nick Foles on Sunday. As for two other vital names Sidney Jones and Mike Wallace, they will not see their return to the field this week.

Jones practiced all week long, and it seemed like he would be able to suit up for depth purposes at least, but as the final injury report came out, the Eagles decided not to clear him. For Mike Wallace, well, his season ended quite early when he went down during the first half of the second game of the season. The Eagles were hoping to have him back by the playoffs, but his return is still a longshot even if the Eagles win this afternoon.
