A Look at the Philadelphia Eagles-New Orleans Saints playoff history
The Philadelphia Eagles and the New Orleans Saints are set to face off in the NFC Divisional Round. This will mark the fourth time these two teams have met in the playoffs.
After falling to the New Orleans Saints 48-7 in Week 11, the Philadelphia Eagles are looking for a chance at redemption. The loss marks the worst loss ever by a defending Super Bowl champion.
The Eagles were hoping for a shot at revenge. Well, they got their wish. Eagles’ offensive lineman Jason Peters talked about how the team was eager to play the Saints in a rematch.

“They ran up the score. We wanted them again, we got them again. This time, we coming. It’s not going to be the same outcome,” Peters told the media shortly after the Eagles victory over the Chicago Bears. Most people do not get second chances, so hopefully, the Eagles take advantage of it. Just like the two teams battled each other before in the regular season, the Eagles and the Saints have matched up a few times in post-season as well.

Heading into this matchup, the Saints are 2-1 against the Birds in playoffs, and the Saints have won the last two playoff games. Despite the outcome though, all three of the playoff games ended as close contests. The first two took place in the Superdome. During the 1993 Wild Card game, the Eagles beat the Saints 20-19. In the 2007 Divisional Round, the Saints were victorious, 27-24.
A look at recent history…
The latest playoff match-up took place in Philly, in 2014. The Birds fell to the Saints, 26-24, on a last-second field goal. Nick Foles was the quarterback for the Eagles. The Eagles had orchestrated a 77-yard touchdown drive to take a 24-23 lead. Foles hit rookie tight end Zach Ertz on a three-yard pass. On the ensuing kickoff, former Saints running back and current Eagles running back, Darren Sproles racked up 39 yards. A horse-collar tackle would add on an extra 15 yards. The Saints were able to take a slow, methodical drive down the field.
Former Eagles running back LeSean McCoy recalls the drive.
"There was nothing we could do but watch. They killed us slowly. It was a terrible feeling."
Ten plays later, and the Saints were in field goal range, and that’s all she wrote.
Not only will the Eagles get a shot at revenge, but Foles will get his shot as well. The odds are certainly not in the Eagles’ favors on Sunday. The Saints are arguably the best team in the NFC, and they have home field advantage. Not to mention, they have all the confidence in the world, after smothering the Eagles in the regular season.

They also just knocked off the 12-4 Chicago Bears, who had the number one ranked defense. This run has been impressive, and one can’t help but think it has to do with the horrible loss to the Saints. After all, That’s when it all started.
Hopefully, that run can continue in New Orleans, and the Birds can even the playoff record against the Saints. While the chances are low, the Eagles’ faith is strong. Anything can happen on any given Sunday.
