Apparently, the Philadelphia Eagles could be returning to the field for Thanksgiving during the 2019 NFL season.

The last time the Philadelphia Eagles played on Thanksgiving was surely a game to forget. Eagles fans from all over were sitting in front of their televisions for the first game of the day, just to see the real start to the end of the Chip Kelly era. Mark Sanchez was under center, and Chip Kelly was officially beginning to realize that his college playcalling in the NFL was nothing more than a gimmick.

The Eagles ended up taking a terrible loss to the Detroit Lions, who defeated them 45-14. A much different outcome in comparison to the beatdown that the Eagles put on the Dallas Cowboys during the previous season. After that disappointing loss to Detroit, playing on Thanksgiving left a horrible taste in the mouth of Eagles fans all over.

Fortunately, there may be a chance for redemption, but it won’t be against Detroit. Apparently, the Eagles are rumored to be playing the Minnesota Vikings on the road on Turkey Day in 2019. While it’s not set in stone just yet, there have been some whispers about the potential matchup around the league, and it could give the Eagles another shot at making football fun again on Thanksgiving for Philadelphia fans all over.

Will the Eagles get another matchup on Turkey Day?

"Here’s an interesting nugget from the SI media podcast that was posted on Wednesday: Host Jimmy Traina and guest John Ourand of the Sports Business Journal were talking about the NFL schedule and specifically Thanksgiving games, when Traina asked Ourand about the nightcap finale of the three-game slate.“I didn’t actually write about this but I have head that Minnesota vs. Philadelphia is one that’s in play,” Ourand said around the 32 minute mark, adding later: “It’s not dead set, but I’m told that it’s pretty likely.”"

According to SB Nation’s Daily Norseman site, the idea of the Eagles visiting the Vikings on Turkey Day has been talked about amongst our friends over at Sports Illustrated. As of right now, the matchup is just speculation, but the NFL would be smart to match the Eagles and the Vikings up on primetime television for everybody to see. Although the Vikings got their not-so-sweet revenge against the Eagles early on in the regular season last year, Minnesota ended up helping Philly get into the playoffs this past season by losing to the Chicago Bears at home.

Ever since the Eagles dominated the Vikings in the NFC Championship en route to winning Super Bowl LII in Minnesota, the Vikings and their fan base have ignited a bit of a rivalry. Excuses were made, complaints were nonstop, and the Eagles fans continued to rub in the sweet NFC Championship victory for almost an entire year. What better way to make Thanksgiving more interesting than to issue a matchup of the Eagles versus the Vikings? It could be an intense battle.
