The Philadelphia Eagles figure to look very different in 2019. Add Ronald Darby to the list of current guys on the roster who will be allowed to walk during the free agency period.

As another day passes, we’ve found another name to add to the list of potential current Philadelphia Eagles who may walk in free agency. This one belongs to another of the key ingredients of their Super Bowl mixture, cornerback Ronald Darby.

One very reliable source, Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer, believes he may have a few answers to the questions surrounding the quandary Philly has in the cornerback’s room, and it includes the Eagles allowing Ronald Darby to leave to explore free agency.

That would allow Avonte Maddox and CreVon LeBlanc to compete for the starting slot corner while Sidney Jones and Jalen Mills will be trusted to hold down roles at the outside corners. There’s just one issue. Jones and Mills are both coming off of injuries that caused them to miss significant time a season ago. Philly may need to add a few corners to their draft board.

In the meantime, Darby, like Mills and Jones, was unable to finish the 2018-19 campaign as well, but his situation is slightly different for one very large reason. If he’ll be back in the midnight green. black, white, and silver in 2019, he’ll need a new deal.

Seeing as how Philly has a much-publicized issue with the salary cap and Darby has only appeared in 20 of the 37 games that the Eagles have suited up for during his tenure with the team (those numbers include two playoff appearances), it’s hard to imagine a scenario where the Eagles bring him back with a long-term deal.

Again, we’re not even sure about what we’re going to get from Mills and Darby or if they’ll be the same following their injury-riddled seasons from a year ago. To be honest, both fell out of favor with quite a few people who watch and cover this team based on several subpar showings in 2018’s regular season, and that was when they were supposed to be healthy.
