Injuries, salary cap issues and depth concerns are just a few reasons the Philadelphia Eagles should use one of their picks in the 2019 NFL Draft on a linebacker.

It happens all of the time in the current NFL. Great rosters are blown up and picked apart, or they simply deteriorate. Look no further than the Philadelphia Eagles as we all head toward the NFL Combine and NFL Draft.

What was a championship roster during the 2017-18 season is inching closer to ending up in shambles. Here we are two offseasons after the one where Philly’s first Super Bowl-winning roster was built, and we’re discussing the same things now that we were discussing then.

The Eagles need to put skill players around Carson Wentz. There are questions at cornerback, and yes, there are questions at linebacker.

B.J. BelloD.J. AlexanderLaRoy ReynoldsNigel BradhamKamu Grugier-HillJordan Hicks, and Nathan Gerry are the guys on the current active roster. Asantay Brown and Alex Singleton are signed to future/ reserve contracts. Paul Worrilow was placed on the team’s IR on May 22nd of 2018 after he tore his ACL on the first day of OTAs.

On January 30th, Worrilow signed a one-year extension, possibly because of the uncertainty of this group’s future and because of what we know about the corps’ two best players.

Nigel Bradham commands a high cap number, which may eventually make him trade bait for a team that needs to clear up cap space, and then there’s Jordan Hicks. Will he even be on the team in a month?

Much like Ronald Darby and Jay Ajayi, Philly may be thinking it’s time to move on from a very talented core member, Hicks, who spends a lot of time on the injury list. Philly may not be wise to invest a long-term deal in him. It appears it’s time to do some scouting for a unit that needs some pop.
