The end of Asante Samuel‘s tenure with the Eagles was rather disappointing, as they got just a seventh-round pick in exchange for his services. That being said, he came in and did exactly what he was supposed to do. After playing five seasons — and winning two Super Bowls — with the New England Patriots, Samuel went into the 2008 season looking to break the bank.

In those five seasons with New England, Samuel was a quarterback’s nightmare. He had 22 career interceptions at the time, with 10 coming in 2006 and six more in 2007. His knack for finding the ball made him rich, as Philadelphia went all-in to land the big free agent.

Samuel and the Eagles agreed to a contract that paid him $56 million over eight seasons. And Samuel did exactly what the Eagles paid him to do — go get the football. In his four seasons with Philadelphia, he made three Pro Bowls, as he also picked off 23 passes. His best season came in 2009, when he recorded nine picks.

However, his willingness to gamble on routes also hurt the team. Samuel guessed right an awful lot, but when he was wrong, the Eagles paid for it, as opposing wide receivers were able to get deep. As he reached his 30s, this started to happen more, which led to his departure from the team.

Philadelphia found a trade partner in the Atlanta Falcons, but as previously mentioned, they received only a seventh-round pick. Samuel played two more seasons with the Falcons before ending his career.
