Try and watch this highlight reel the Philadelphia Eagles made in wake of the decision to let Nick Foles walk in free agency. We bet you’ll shed a tear.

Tons of articles are written daily about the Philadelphia Eagles, so it’s hard to remember where you heard something first sometimes. Still, every once in a while, a story comes along and it just sticks in your memory. That happened exactly two months ago in a story that was written about Nick Foles.

Reuben Frank of NBC Sports Philadelphia, on December 28th, wrote a story and the title stated these exact words: ‘The greatest Eagles QB ever? There’s only one answer and it’s Nick Foles’. While you may agree or disagree with that, think about it for a second.

Nick Foles is one of those rare Eagles who played for Andy Reid, Chip Kelly, and Doug Pederson. No one has ever given him the keys to the franchise. Two of those coaches allowed him to leave (Kelly gave him away for Sam Bradford), but seeing Foles prepare to make his exit makes you ask yourself something.

What if he had been here the whole time?

We, at ITI, echo some of what Frank said and would like to share some of the same stats he did.

"2013: Set a single-season TD-INT ratio record of 27-2 in his Pro Bowl season…2014: He went 6-2, improving to 14-4 as a starter under Kelly.2017: Returned and replaced an injured Wentz in December and led the Eagles on a historic postseason run that culminated in him being Super Bowl MVP.2018: Replaced an injured Wentz again and pumped some life into a lost season with a few late-season wins that have put the Eagles in position where they at least have a chance at another postseason run."

Foles is great because of what he accomplished and the way he did it. ‘Saint Nick’ is a real-life Rocky Balboa. Philadelphia’s greatest underdog story is no longer a work of fiction. It’s real, and perhaps the best evidence we have of that is a trophy that we’ve waited our entire lives to see them win.

Foles is a big reason this team won Super Bowl 52 and the Lombardi Trophy. He went toe to toe with the greatest quarterback in NFL history, and until another Eagles QB does the same, he’s set apart.

We hope Carson Wentz wins at least one more Super Bowl. Who are we kidding? We hope he wins six, but until that happens, Nick is different, and when the ‘Wentz Wagon’ rolls into town with another Lombardi, Mr. Foles will still be different, because he’s the first Eagles quarterback that did it.

One day before the final day of February, the Eagles said farewell. Try and fight back the tears on this one.

Is there anything else that needs to be said? If there is, we can’t think of anything at the moment.
