Two potential former Eagles, Nick Foles, and Ronald Darby are set to hit the Free Agency market. Will they break the bank this year?

We’re just a couple of weeks away from one of the most hectic times of the year. NFL’s Free Agency period. As the league new year is set to kick off soon, teams are beginning to put everything together for not only the NFL Draft but for their potential veteran signings as well. For the Philadelphia Eagles, this is a big offseason. Not only will Howie Roseman remain aggressive and bring in some new guys, but the Birds are looking to lose some big names as well.

Their most notable loss this offseason will be the quarterback, Nick Foles. Initially, it seemed like the Eagles were going to keep him for a little while longer in an attempt to trade him, but they made it official that Foles will get to test the market. Also, there’s Brandon Graham, Golden Tate, Ronald Darby, Jay Ajayi, and a few more that could be off and talking to teams as well.

As the market for some positions is thinner than others, players tend to get overvalued and overpaid in Free Agency. Considering that the Eagles have some of the NFL’s top Free Agent’s hitting the market, a couple of their guys could see a significant payday elsewhere. Recently, Bleacher Report’s Brad Gagnon put together a list of some of the NFL’s most overrated players hitting the market, and to no surprise, the Eagles had two of them.

Who is looking to get the big bucks in Free Agency?

With a couple of teams looking for a quick patch-up job at quarterback, Nick Foles is clearly the top guy available for the job. As he was named the Super Bowl MVP just a season ago, it’s clear that teams wish that they could get some of that St. Nick magic on their side. Unfortunately, they will have to deal with the low’s that comes with Foles as well. Just remember, Foles has yet to play a full season in the NFL since he’s been drafted in 2012. He’s already 30-years-old.

"Somebody will likely pay Foles a comical amount of money because he’s a “winner” who helped lead the Eagles on a shocking championship run in 2017 and an unexpected playoff run in 2018. But he struggled in this year’s postseason, his rate-based numbers haven’t been good during his second stint in Philly, and he’s never been that successful outside of three short streaks."

As for Ronald Darby, he’s made the list as well. This could confuse a lot of people in Philly as Darby hasn’t been all that impressive during his shaky two-year stint here. But at the end of the day, his age is what has gotten him so many looks. Darby isn’t a bad cornerback, but he’s very inconsistent. Now mix in the fact that he’s been hurt for pretty much a half of a season for the last two years and it’s quite puzzling to imagine why he should get the big bucks. But once again, that’s how the market works.

"Overlooking issues with injuries and inconsistency would be a mistake, though. Under the current circumstances, Darby isn’t worth more than a one-year prove-it contract. But because the corner market is nearly barren and he’s a 25-year-old with a playmaking history and a Super Bowl ring, he’ll likely get a better deal than that."
