The Philadelphia Eagles made Jason Kelce the highest-paid center on a yearly basis, and he didn’t even need to ask for a raise.

The NFL is a cutthroat business. Typically, the players don’t have too much leverage, and front offices tend to have a ‘my way or the highway’ type of mentality. For the Philadelphia Eagles front office, it’s different, though. Instead of going for the big-named Free Agents when the league new year opens up, the Eagles make it a priority to lock in their current players over anybody.

We saw it earlier this week with Brandon Graham. Although Graham assumed he was going to be hitting the open market, since a deal wasn’t completed earlier in the year, BG decided that Philly is where his heart is. There’s a good chance that Graham is taking a discount by staying in Philly, but the Eagles were quite generous with their extension of three-years, worth $40 million.

Then, Howie Roseman and the rest of the front office decided that they wanted to keep on giving. For that, they honored their All-Pro center Jason Kelce with an extension through 2021 and made him the highest-paid center per year. And the best part about the Eagles doing that? Kelce didn’t even ask for it; the front office just decided to do it.

Jason Kelce is very grateful

After Kelce found out that he was getting an extension, he rushed over to the nearest USPS store to print out his contract to sign. No, seriously. Kelce, who is now the highest-paid center doesn’t have a scanner or a printer at his house, so he had to go use a public printer to make it happen. We know this because his wife, Kylie decided to snap some pics of the fan-favorite doing ordinary people stuff and printing his contract that’s worth millions in a local USPS store.

"“Obviously, it’s a tremendous gesture by the team,” Kelce said in an exclusive telephone interview on Saturday morning. “They didn’t have to do anything like this. I’m really happy to be in Philadelphia – I have been my whole career. I love being part of this organization. For everything to continue to go this week, for the team to be how good it is, for the coaches to be as good as they are, I just feel extremely lucky to be in this situation.”"

After he signed his extension, Kelce did an immediate phone interview with Eagles’ Insider Dave Spadaro. That’s when Kelce made it known that the Eagles certainly did not have to throw an extension at him, but he’s definitely grateful with the fact that they did. After all, Kelce did earn it. And with that extension, it solidifies that he most likely will stick around without retiring until 2021 is up in a few years.

Next. 10 FA’s the Eagles have to make a decision on. dark
