Could the Philadelphia Eagles be competing with the hated Dallas Cowboys for the services of Duke Johnson? Every once in a while, rumor mills produce a very interesting story.

You’ve been told the same thing your whole life. Avoid gossip. Yet in still, you continue to listen. Why? Well, let’s be honest. Every once in a while, you get a very interesting story from the rumor mill. Then again, if you keep hearing the same things over and over, especially when it comes to the Philadelphia Eagles, can we be sure that there isn’t a little truth to it?

Apparently, ‘The Birds’ may be competing with a divisional rival for the services of a running back, one Duke Johnson of the Cleveland Browns.

Hey, it’s not like the Browns haven’t had a history of throwing the alley-oop pass to the Eagles before. Just think Donovan McNabb or more recently, Carson Wentz.

Word has it the Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys may both be trying to usher a trade from the Browns for Johnson’s services.

It makes sense. The Cowboys were very interested in Johnson four years ago when he entered the NFL Draft in 2015. From the Eagles perspective, you have to consider the fact that Jay Ajayi and Darren Sproles are both impending free agents, and Johnson may be better than anything else they’d have on their current roster.

The Browns seem set in the backfield as both Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt figure to take a little pressure off of Baker Mayfield. With other needs to address, Cleveland may be willing to field offers for Mr. Johnson.

That brings us to Mary Kay Cabot. If you don’t know who she is, think of her as The Bible for all things Browns related. She reported on Monday that ‘at least three NFL teams’ were interested in trading for him. Andy Slater reconfirmed that theory with a report of his own.

Maybe this one can be taken out of the category of rumors. There are too many reliable sources saying the same thing for this story to just be chalked up as hearsay.
