Adam Schefter doesn’t expect Eagles to land Le’Veon Bell
Just because he’s entertained the idea, doesn’t mean that Le’Veon Bell has his sights set on signing with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Ever since last year’s trade deadline, the Philadelphia Eagles have been linked to former Pittsburgh Steelers running back, Le’Veon Bell. Just because Eagles’ general manager Howie Roseman got on the phone to hear about the price tag, the Eagles weirdly became ‘front-runners’ in the sweepstakes. Obviously, a deal didn’t go down as Bell stayed in Pittsburgh and didn’t play a snap of football in 2018. This time around though, he’s free to go wherever he wants.
With the 2019 NFL Free Agency period coming up, Bell is expected to have a couple of suitors. Since his high guarantee demand has made the Steelers move on from him, Bell has seemingly limited his market a bit, despite being the clear-cut best back available. Seeing as though the Eagles lack talent in their backfield, they could be in the market for somebody.
As Roseman and the Eagles front office continues to clear up tons of cap space, everybody is expecting a big signing in Free Agency. With Bell naturally being one of the biggest names available in a position of the Eagles needs, the entire city of Philly is getting excited.
Also, it doesn’t help that the Phillies’ newest superstar Bryce Harper attempted to recruit Bell to the team as well. But as we stated before, Bell to the Eagles this offseason is an absolute pipe dream. And to help back that claim, ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter discussed the potential of Bell landing in Philly. Check out what he had to say on Philly’s 97.5 The Fanatic.
Schefter downplays the Bell rumors
"“The one thing I know about the Eagles is: they’re always investigating everybody. There’s nobody out there that gets released that they don’t make a call on and say “Hey, what’s the deal? What’s the number? What’s it going to take to get done?” Now, how interested they are? Who knows, because they’re going to do that with everybody. It’s their job. It’s the right thing to do. It’s the wise thing to do because you never know when you’re going to find a bargain. I’d be surprised if he wound up there. That’s not where I’m looking for him to end up, Le’Veon Bell.”"
Is it possible that Bell comes to Philly? Well, anything is possible. Is it probable though, should be the real question? And it is in fact, not likely that Bell ends up in midnight green for 2019. Despite the attempts to clear up a nice amount of cap space, it’s highly doubtful that the Eagles are loading up space to invest it all in one place. Especially the running back position, which they seem to value the least on offense year after year.
Carson Wentz definitely needs some weapons for 2019 and beyond, and he looks to get back to his 2017 ways. While Bell would be a fantastic addition for Wentz and the offense, it just doesn’t seem right for the Eagles to spend so much on a running back. Especially when they will be bidding against a team like the New York Jets, who have almost unlimited cap space this year. It’s alright to get excited ahead of Free Agency, but don’t get too hopeful for Bell.
