The 2019 NFL Free Agency period is around the corner. Which veteran running backs could the Philadelphia Eagles target?

Last season, the Philadelphia Eagles attempted to do something different in their backfield. Instead of trying to bring in somebody new whether it was through Free Agency or the NFL Draft, they tried to roll with who they already had. And many rumors were starting to spread that they were going to actually let Jay Ajayi become a clear-cut number one back again.

Unfortunately, that plan got derailed by Week Two when Jay Ajayi ended up injuring his back. Although Ajayi tried to tough it out and play through it in the following weeks, he ended up tearing his ACL as well, which officially ended his year. Meanwhile, the only running back the Eagles acquired through Free Agency was nursing a hamstring injury for most of the year (Darren Sproles) and their Undrafted Rookie Free Agent, Josh Adams was in and out of the first-string role.

Are the Eagles going to finally draft a running back with one of their three first picks? Or are they going to play this game of “we don’t know who to run this week, so we’ll just give four different guys a pair of carries” game after game? Can the Eagles actually prioritize the position this time around?

A dream scenario would be to see the Eagles not only sign a veteran through Free Agency but spend a first or second-round pick on a running back as well. This year in the 2019 NFL Free Agency period, there are quite a few running backs available, who would fit in with the pairing of Corey Clement, and another rookie that could potentially get drafted. So, which of these seven veterans could pair well in a three-headed monster for the Eagles backfield?
