Jay Ajayi

Age: 25

Last Team: Philadelphia Eagles

Ajayi wrapped up his second and final season on his contract with the Eagles this past season, and it wasn’t exactly a promising exit. As Ajayi was on his contract year, the Eagles were giving him a prime opportunity to prove to them that he deserves to be a feature back in this league. Unfortunately, Ajayi’s body would not cooperate with him at all.

It’s unfortunate because Ajayi was off to a solid start with the Eagles. During the first week of the 2018 NFL Season, Ajayi shined on offense as he rushed in both of their touchdowns on offense. He only managed to play in four games and averaged 4.1 yards-per-carry. I want to think that Ajayi’s still got the ability to be a three-down back, but I just don’t believe it.

However, bringing Ajayi back on a one-year, prove it-type deal could work out well for both parties. Ajayi could come back and be featured in another committee, which worked well for him in 2017. Not only could he thrive in that role with the Eagles for the year, but he could also re-build his value ahead of Free Agency once again and could get himself a sweet multi-year deal either here or elsewhere. It would be a low-risk, high-reward type of situation that the Eagles should be open to.
