Golden Tate is entertaining the idea of joining the Jaguars
It sure sounds like Golden Tate is moving on from the Philadelphia Eagles as he makes a case for himself joining the Jaguars.
Will the Philadelphia Eagles even try to retain Golden Tate at this point? Well, it sure seems like Tate is already looking to move on. We suspected it last month as Tate seemed a bit frustrated with the fact that the Eagles had yet to make Tate an offer before Free Agency. Now, Tate is using Twitter to show interest in joining other teams. At this point, it seems like the Eagles’ trade of a third-round pick for Tate wasn’t much of a winner.
Right before the NFL trade deadline, the Eagles sent a third-round pick to the Detroit Lions in exchange for Tate. Although he was a proven veteran, who has had a fair amount of success in the NFL, the deal was quite questionable. Being that Tate is a slot wide receiver, which is where Nelson Agholor thrives, the trade didn’t make much sense from a personnel standpoint. To add to that, Tate is also going to be 31-years-old by the start of the 2019 season and had an expiring contract at the end of the year.
Aside from his big touchdown catch against the Chicago Bears in the playoffs, Tate did not live up to the hype with the Eagles. Although Eagles’ offensive coordinator Mike Groh admitted that the coaching staff was struggling to get Tate involved, it still would’ve been interesting in Tate could stick around for a full season for the right price with the Eagles. Unfortunately, that most likely won’t be the case as Tate seems more than ready to move on.
Tate makes his case for other teams to snag him
Last week, Golden Tate admitted that he would love to catch passes from New England Patriots’ quarterback, Tom Brady. This week, Tate has shifted his focus elsewhere in the AFC, as he tweeted about both, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Jacksonville Jaguars. For Pittsburgh, Tate tweeted at their team account with a thinking emoji. That came after the news that the Steelers traded Antonio Brown away, clearly making space on the team for another wideout.
Then, Tate replied to a tweet from his buddy Jalen Ramsey in Jacksonville. As the Jaguars intend on signing Nick Foles this week, they are going to have to look for some weapons through Free Agency as well. Considering the familiarity with Tate already, maybe Jacksonville brings him in to pair with his Eagles teammate.
At this point, Tate must’ve received a message from his representatives that the Eagles simply aren’t interested. As they have Alshon Jeffery, Nelson Agholor and Mack Hollins returning, the Eagles are comfortable at the wideout position. However, they don’t want to just be comfortable. The Eagles will be on the hunt for another wideout, but unfortunately, Tate doesn’t really fit the description of their needs this offseason. Hence the reason why he’s not already re-signed.
