The Philadelphia Eagles are scheduled to sit down with former Florida Gators safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson on Monday per report.

The Philadelphia Eagles are quietly setting themselves up to add some key pieces to a roster that looks a lot different from the one that won a Super Bowl in February of 2018. Thanks to some shrewd moves, Philly is, now, expected to be aggressive players in free agency. They are also, simultaneously, looking at the guys coming out in 2019’s NFL Draft with a watchful eye.

According to a report by of Jordan Reid of Cover1.net, ‘The Birds’ are expected to host former Florida Gators safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson on a pre-draft visit.

Take a look:

This is interesting for several reasons. Looking at what the Eagles currently have on the roster could create several debates about what the plan should be going forward, but the one thing we all can agree on is this team may want to begin looking at some solid young talent to build for the future.

Philly said goodbye to one of their older reserves, Corey Graham, at around this same time last year only to re-sign him at the beginning of August because of depth issues. That preceded Rodney McLeod being placed on the Eagles’ IR (injured reserve) at the end of September after he suffered a torn MCL in the third week of the regular season.

Jeremiah McKinnon and Mercy Maston are both signed to future/reserve contracts. That leaves an aging but still productive Malcolm JenkinsTre Sullivan, and Deiondre’ Hall joining Graham on the active roster,

If the Eagles were to add Gardner-Johnson to the mix, Sullivan and Hall would, no doubt, be battling for roster spots just like they were a season ago.

Here’s what was said about him in his draft profile on The Draft Network:

"Gardner-Johnson is a highly versatile defensive back that can fill numerous roles for an NFL defense and allow for more scheme diversity. He is a standout zone defender whether it’s single high or split zones. He features the physical traits needed to mirror routes in man coverage and excels near the line of scrimmage with box duties. While there is some variance, his improvements from 2017 to 2018 give indication that he still has room to grow. CGJ is a true swiss army knife that profiles as a productive starter that is deployed in multiple ways in the NFL."

Gardner-Johnson racked up 71 total tackles (37 were solo), three sacks, and four interceptions during his final season in ‘The Swamp’. Place him on your draft boards ladies and gentlemen. There appears to be some interest here.
