NFC East News: Landon Collins returns to the division with the Redskins
Last week we were under the assumption that Landon Collins was out of the NFC East for good. Well, we were wrong.
You’ve got to love the revenge game for some players in NFL Free Agency. Over the last month or so, the New York Giants were unsure of their future with the Pro Bowl safety, Landon Collins. As Collins prematurely cleared out his locker well before the NFL Free Agency period, there were many reports that Collins had no intention of returning to the Giants.
For the Philadelphia Eagles, that was excellent news. Although the Giants haven’t been very competitive with the Eagles as of late, it’s always good to let out a breath of fresh air when a good player departs from the division. So as expected, the Giants refused to tag or re-sign Collins, and off he went to test Free Agency.
Unfortunately, the Eagles won’t get rid of Collins that easily. As he has moved on from the Giants, and found his new home, Collins will not be going too far. As of Monday afternoon, the Pro Bowl safety has decided that he wanted to go to D.C. Now, Landon Colling will be with the Washington Redskins during the 2019 NFL season and beyond.
Collins is officially back
The Redskins, without hesitation, have offered Collins a mighty generous offer of six years, worth $84 million. With multiple big-name safeties on the market, Collins has definitely shaken up the market for the position. Signing a six-year deal is quite rare for most positions, especially safety. Now the Eagles will have to deal with Collins at least twice a season for the next six years.
While the return of Collins is significant, there’s also some good news here for the Eagles. As the Redskins were in on potential contract talks for former Baltimore Ravens’ linebacker C.J. Mosley, the signing of Collins could rule them out of the race for the linebacker. For those who don’t know, the Eagles have been linked to Mosley as of Monday morning. Although his market is large right now, it’s good to see one of their top players spend a lot somewhere else.
