Jordan Hicks is officially a former Philadelphia Eagles linebacker as he has a deal in place with the Arizona Cardinals.

The 2019 NFL Free Agency period has treated linebackers well so far. Although it took a while for former Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Jordan Hicks to garner some attention, he’s finally got a deal in place, and it’s not with the Eagles. According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, Hicks will become a member of the Arizona Cardinals for the 2019 NFL Season and beyond.

Although Hicks has had some flashes with the Eagles in the past, his durability was a major concern for the team. After spending his first four years with the Eagles, Hicks only managed to stay healthy for one full season. During that short duration, he had two season-ending injuries. One of which, was a ruptured Achilles during the 2017 Super Bowl run.

The details of the deal

According to Rapoport, Hicks will land a four-year contract, worth $36 million in total. $20 million of it is guaranteed. That’s a generous offer for a guy who has struggled to stay healthy in the past. While Hicks was a decent contributor for the Eagles defense, there were times where his presence seemed to affect other players around him in more of a negative outcome. We saw twice in the last two seasons that when Hicks is out, Eagles’ outside linebacker Nigel Bradham tends to thrive.

Now, the Eagles have Kamu Grugier-Hill as a replacement for Hicks, unless they make any further moves. While Grugier-Hill was surprisingly decent in 2018, it’s doubtful that the Eagles are going to head into the 2019 season without a stronger competition for Hill and Nathan Gerry. At this point, we may see the Eagles take a middle linebacker in one of the earlier rounds this season. The last time they took a linebacker fairly high was with Hicks back in 2015, when he was a third-round selection out of Texas.
